Overview
This Research in Physics, Quantum Matter and Optics MSc programme at Leiden University is the right for you if you are interested in current research themes in quantum matter and optics and experimental approaches to expand our knowledge in these fields. You are curiosity-driven and intrigued by quantum mechanics and its appearance in many state-of-the-art experiments. You are thrilled by the possibility to contribute to this knowledge in an intense research environment.
Why study Research in Physics, Quantum Matter and Optics at Leiden University?
- The programme covers major current research themes, such as advanced condensed matter physics, superconductivity, molecular electronics, quantum optics and quantum information, and strong photon-matter interaction. Experimental methods taught in the programme include break junction spectroscopy, scanning tunneling spectroscopy, low-energy electron microscopy, and magnetic resonance force microscopy. Various of these techniques have been developed or significantly improved in Leiden.
- The programme provides you with a thorough hands-on research training in the field of ‘Quantum Matter and Optics’, acquired during two experimental projects, performed in a master-apprentice setting. Here, you will be part of one of our excellent research groups, allowing you to push the boundaries of knowledge yourself.
- In this programme you have ample opportunities to design your own study path; 45 EC of the programme consists of electives.
