Overview

All coursework is available on campus and synchronously online. Both local and distance students participate in summer courses in residence in Reno-Tahoe. In their final summer, students complete a six-unit integrative project.The mission of the graduate program in French is to educate students in the language, cultures, literatures, and linguistics of the Francophone world at the highest possible level and to provide students with a broad knowledge base that will advance their present and future professional activities and/or prepare them to pursue more specialized studies. As a smaller program, our students are able to work closely with faculty members to tailor a program that will help them to achieve their professional goals.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students in World Languages and Literatures - French at University of Nevada, Reno should be able to discuss the concepts and theories that allow the integration of knowledge attained in various subfields of French and Francophone studies.Students who graduate with an M.A. degree in French will have skills and experience in conducting original research and demonstrate applied critical writing and communication skills appropriate to a range of academic, community, and professional settings.Students should be successful in finding professional employment in their specialty (e.g., as K-12 French teachers) or, alternatively, students should be able to apply successfully to doctoral programs in French and Francophone studies and related disciplines at any university in the United States.
