Overview
The Environmental Toxicology programme at the University of California, Riverside provides an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to studying the impact of toxins on the biosphere. Students explore the complex mechanisms by which natural and synthetic chemicals affect human health and the natural environment.
This course of study is designed to equip researchers with the expertise needed to address modern pollution challenges. By combining biology and chemistry, the curriculum prepares graduates to develop innovative procedures for cleaning up contaminated sites and reducing global environmental risks.
Why Environmental Toxicology at the University of California, Riverside?
The institution is home to the College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences, which provides world-class research facilities and a collaborative academic atmosphere. Students benefit from a highly distinguished faculty, including recipients of prestigious awards from the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Mass Spectrometry.
A significant strength of the programme is the NIEHS T32 Training Grant, which supports high-quality research training in essential subjects. This funding highlights the university's commitment to excellence in areas such as chemical kinetics, statistics, and research ethics.
The teaching features a strong emphasis on next-generation risk assessment and computational modelling. Research at the centre often involves cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to predict chemical toxicities and understand human health risks.
Partnerships and outreach activities are central to the institutional mission, particularly regarding aquatic chemistry and water quality. The faculty actively engage in raising public awareness and developing engineered solutions for wastewater reclamation and purification.
