Overview

The Genetics programme at Vilnius University  to develop experience of the experimental work in genetics which can be realised by original experimental work in various fields of genetics: molecular, plant, human genetics or genetics of microorganisms, gene engineering, cytogenetics, genotoxicology. Programme provides with the modern knowledge and practical skills in genetics necessary for independent scientific and professional career in rapidly developing areas of genetic technologies, biomedicine and biotechnologies

This is done by original experimental work in various fields of genetics including: molecular, plant, human genetics or the genetics of microorganisms, gene engineering, cytogenetics and genotoxicology. The programme provides students with the modern knowledge and practical skills in genetics necessary for an independent scientific and professional career in the rapidly developing areas of genetic technologies, biomedicine and biotechnologies.

Career

Genetics master’s graduates work in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and biomedical industries, in genetic testing laboratories, molecular diagnostics centers, and biomedical research institutions. Graduates find employment at the Nature Research Centre, biotechnology companies, hospital laboratories, universities, the public sector, and in education. Genetics competencies are also valued in R&D departments, clinical research organizations, and startups developing new genetic and biotechnological technologies.
