Overview
The Nutrition and Food Science programme at Montclair State University provides a comprehensive academic framework for students aiming to lead in the global food and wellness industries. This Master of Science degree integrates rigorous scientific training with practical applications in food policy, safety, and community health.
Students benefit from a curriculum that explores the entire food system, from sustainable production and quality management to clinical nutrition and regulatory compliance. The programme is designed to foster expertise in developing innovative food products while addressing complex public health challenges through evidence-based nutrition interventions.
Why Nutrition and Food Science at Montclair State University?
This programme is distinguished by its STEM designation, reflecting a high standard of scientific and technical training that is highly valued by employers. Students have access to the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies, which offers hands-on experience in clinical settings, community outreach, and modern food laboratories.
The university provides two distinct pathways to suit different professional goals: a General Concentration for those interested in industry and research, and an ACEND-accredited Dietetics Concentration. The latter includes 1,000 hours of supervised experiential learning, making graduates eligible for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) examination.
Furthermore, the institution maintains strong links with healthcare providers, government agencies, and food production organisations. These partnerships ensure that the teaching remains aligned with current industry trends, such as sustainable food practices and advanced nutrition counselling techniques.
