Description

NHS Learning Support Fund (LSF) is funding to support eligible healthcare students. 

NHS LSF is made up of 4 main elements. What you get depends on your circumstances.

Benefits

There are four elements to the NHS Learning Support Fund, and you may be entitled to all four depending on your personal circumstances:

Training Grant of £5,000

Parental Support of £2,000

Travel and accommodation expenses

The Exceptional Support Fund of up to £3,000.

Students on certain courses can get a Special Subject Payment, which is an extra £1,000. This will automatically be added onto your account and will be processed at the same time as your Training Grant application.

Eligibility

You will be eligible for this if you study one of the following courses at undergraduate or postgraduate:

  • Adult Nursing
  • Child Nursing
  • Dental Hygiene & Dental Therapy
  • Diagnostic Radiography
  • Dietetics
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Operating Department Practice
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Paramedic Science
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and Language Therapy.

Please note that our postgraduate degree in Clinical Reporting does not qualify for this fund as this is not a pre-reg qualification.

Create an NHS LSF account on the NHS website. You will only need to sign up once as you'll reapply on this account each year. Please do not apply on any other systems other than the NHS LSF website.

To register, you must have the following information:

date of birth

home address.

You must apply within six months of starting your course. We recommend you apply from March 2026 for 2026/27 entry.

For continuing students, you will receive a reminder email for reapplication.
