Ethics
The Ethics program at Graduate Theological Union prepares students to contextualize the major figures in the development of ethics and social theory, to interrelate ethics with a secondary concentration, to do research, and to construct an ethical argument.
Anthropology of Religion
The Anthropology of Religion at Graduate Theological Union will have students study cultural contexts, beginning with conceptualizing “religion” itself as the product of Christian, European, and colonial genealogies in order to understand this concept’s impact on the world.
Sociology of Religion
The Sociology of Religion program at Graduate Theological Union will have students acquire the requisite skills to investigate “lived religion” both over time and amid contemporary contexts.
Practical Theology
The Practical Theology program at Graduate Theological Union is taught in an interreligious, multi-racial, and multicultural context.

The New Religious Movements at Graduate Theological Union will have students study New Religious Movements as organizational movements, religious ideas, and distinctive spiritualties.
Comparative Religion
The Comparative Religion at Graduate Theological Union encourages the joint study of different religious traditions by exploring their fundamental themes, beliefs, and concerns, their principal figures and texts, and their variety of rituals and practices.
Islamic Studies
Students in this Islamic Studies concentration at Graduate Theological Union engage in the interdisciplinary study, research, and teaching of Islam in its theological, historical, cultural, and comparative contexts, with a focus on Islamic texts in contemporary contexts, Islam as a lived tradition, and the global expressions of Muslim diversity, both past and present.
Theology and Science
The Theology and Science program at Graduate Theological Union has the primary goal to promote creative mutual interaction between natural science and academic theology.
Religious Education
The Religious Education program at Graduate Theological Union is intended to educate scholars in the interdisciplinary field of religious education, integrates theology and interfaith studies with educational theories and practices available in both GTU and UC Berkeley.
Hindu and Yoga Studies

The Islamic Philosophy and Theology program at Graduate Theological Union focuses on the systematic study of the Muslim intellectual tradition devoted to explorations of divine revelation, religious belief, and philosophical developments.
Liturgical Studies
The Liturgical Studies program at Graduate Theological Union will have students engage in critical research into the historical evolution of Christian rites; theological reflection about Christian ritual practice (historical and contemporary); and analysis/interpretation of the ritual practices and embodied faith expressions of particular liturgical traditions.
Yoga Studies
The Yoga Studies program at Graduate Theological Union offers fully accredited Certificate, Masters, and Doctoral programs that focus on the academic study of Yoga.

Art and Religion
