The College of Humanities, the largest of UKZN’s four Colleges, is the home of critical thinking, social commentary and robust intellectual debate. It is aptly referred to as “The Soul of the University.” We offer a master degree in Translation Studies at University of Kwazulu Natal.

The Department offers a Degree of Master of Arts in Translation in approved languages, which at present are French, German, Russian; the aim of the programme is to offer basic training in the art and techniques of translation. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, which offers the Translation programme at the Stellenbosch University, sets great store by research and postgraduate teaching as part of its academic mission. So it hardly comes as a surprise that annually about one-third of our students are engaged in studies at postgraduate level in our wide-ranging programme offering.

The Department of Modern European Languages (now European Studies) was one of the first departments created by the new University of Ibadan in 1962. French and German were first set up in the Faculty of Arts of the then University College Ibadan (UCI) during the 1959/60 session with two lecturers in charge.
