Description

CIMO offers scholarships for advanced studies (on MA level) of the Finnish language at Finnish universities. The scholarships are meant for degree students of Finnish language and literature at universities outside Finland. Preference is given to applicants who are working on their Master's thesis.

Duration

The maximum period for which the scholarship can be applied for is one academic term.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information

Benefits

The monthly allowance is 800 euros. No additional allowance for housing is paid. The scholarship holder is also responsible for expenses due to international travel to and from Finland.

Application information

Students apply directly to CIMO for the grant. Application deadlines are April 30th for the autumn term and October 31st for the spring term.

The applicant must establish contact with the host university department before applying.
The application form is completed in Finnish. It should include the following documents (the university transcript may be in English, others in Finnish):

  • CV
  • university transcript
  • reference from the Finnish language teacher
    (including an assessment of your language skills)
  • confirmation letter from the host department
  • study/research plan.
