The 29 programmes offered in this programme line are based on bilateral agreements reached between the DAAD and a foreign partner organisation or institution on joint research funding. PPP agreements currently exist with the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, PR China, Columbia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The DAAD receives the funding to run the programme from the budget of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The funding of applications is decided once a year by binational commissions made up of university teachers and researchers from various subject areas.
Objective
The programme aims to intensify cooperation between foreign and German research groups who work together on a specific scientific project. It attaches particular importance to the in-service training and specialisation of young researchers.
Target Group
Researchers, university teachers, students (Bachelor's/Diplom/Magister), graduates (Master's), doctoral students, and postdoctoral students are funded. The details are governed by the respective agreement. On the German side, applications are open to university teachers, researchers and postdoctoral students who are employed by a German university or a non-university research institution. Depending on the agreement/partner country, the programme is either open to all academic disciplines or may be restricted to some specific disciplines.
Application Requirements
Applications are open to concrete scientific research projects of high quality in which research groups from both countries aim to collaborate and, as far as possible, complement each other. The project's core budget (human resources and materials/consumables on both sides) must be secured through external or own resources.
Depending on the project/partner country, the total funding term for a project is up to 2 or 3 years.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information
Financial resources from the programme may be used to fund travel and subsistence costs that arise in the course of the project-related collaboration. Short-term stays of up to several months are eligible for funding. The maximum funding term for researchers is 1 month per stay, and 2 months per stay for students, graduates, and doctoral students.
Depending on the agreement/partner country two forms of grant are possible:
The funding rates and information contained in the respective partner-specific call for applications apply (www.daad.de/ppp). This is also where information on the place of application and the application deadlines is to be found. Multiple applications for simultaneously planned funding in various PPPs with various countries are also possible.
