Description

This scholarship programme gives journalists from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova the opportunity to spend three months studying in a "Journalist College" at the Free University of Berlin. This enables them to

  • intensify their cultural dialogue,
  • exchange knowledge and information from and about each other,
  • contact colleagues from Germany and other European countries.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: 35 years at application
  • At Application date no more than 5 years must have passed since final exams
  • University degree at the start of the grant period
  • Several years of career experience
  • Proven very good German language skills (at least Mittelstufe III)

Duration

The programme runs twice each year: first run: 1 May up to 31 July; second run: 1 September up to 30 November

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information

Benefits

  • Academical course programme at the Journalist College at the Free University of Berlin (6 weeks)
  • Work placement/internship at a media organisation in Berlin (6 weeks)
  • Subsequent visit to another region of Germany (1 week)
  • The DAAD pays a monthly scholarship of 780.- euros plus a flat-rate travel and luggage allowance. Accommodation is provided in student halls of residence and is free of charge. The Free University of Berlin runs compact courses and arranges work placements/internships which are completed with partner media organisations in Berlin.

Application information

The application must be typed in German. The application must include the following papers:

  • a completed application form (obtainable from the application addresses named below) as well as at www.jil.fu-berlin.de, www.daad.ru
  • curriculum vitae
  • well given reasons for participation at the programme
  • certificates (including a German language proficiency certificate and the academic degree certificate)
  • two letters of recommendation
  • two or three work samples
  • employer's assent of the release for participation at the programme

  • Applications for scholarships must be submitted to the DAAD Moscow Office by 20 October. The desired participation time must be mentioned at the application.
