Description
The Gerda Henkel Foundation was founded in Düsseldorf in 1976 as a foundation under private law. Its sole purpose is the promotion of science. It promotes the historic humanities, predominantly history, archaeology, history of art and historical sub-disciplines. The foundation's activities are not limited to Germany. Its initiatives are internationally oriented. One of the scholarship programmes is aimed at scientists already qualified to teach at professorial level, who can obtain scholarship support for a research project for a maximum of two years.
Eligibility
Target Group
Holders of qualifications to teach at professorial level in the subjects of History, Archaeology, Prehistory and Early History, History of Art, Historical Islamic Studies, History of Law.
Application Requirements
The main decision-making criteria for awarding grants are the scientific importance and quality of a research project. Definitive statements on the cost structure and schedule of the suggested projects are mandatory.
Duration
Max. two years
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

- Description of the intended research project (max. 8 - 10 pages)
- Schedule, with travel schedule if applicable
- Detailed cost calculation (precise figures must be given for the funds requested)
- Curriculum vitae and publications by the applicant(s).
- If applicable, curriculum vitae and publications by the intended project co-ordinator and/or project staff member
- At least 1 statement of opinion by a university teacher; the author should send the required statement of opinion directly to the foundation (with signature by the author - may be sent in advance by email or fax).
Application Deadline
Applications can be made at any time. The foundation boards make scholarship award decisions twice a year, usually in April and October.
