Description

Course completion grants provide foreign students reading German studies, German as a foreign language or translation studies with an opportunity to use a short-term grant to complete a stay in Germany at a state (public) or state-recognised higher education institution to prepare a final dissertation for submission at the home higher education institution.

Eligibility

  • Applications for course completion grants are open to excellently-qualified students of the above-mentioned areas who, at the time they commence the grant-supported stay, are in their final academic year and are preparing their final dissertation.
  • Applicants are requested to submit an outline of their final dissertation and a detailed work schedule for the stay in Germany.
  • Applicants must also submit written confirmation from a German academic that he/she is willing to provide academic supervision for the planned study project.

Duration

Course completion grants are awarded for a period of between one and three months and cannot be extended.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information

Benefits

The DAAD pays a monthly award of 650 euros, a one-off start-up grant, a rent allowance and a one-off book allowance. As a rule, the scholarship additionally includes certain payments towards health insurance cover in Germany. Furthermore, the DAAD generally will pay an appropriate flat-rate travel allowance, unless these costs are covered by the home country or by another funding source.

  • Detailed information on the application papers which need to be submitted can be found in the Application Form for "Research Grants and Study Scholarships" ("Antrag auf ein Forschungs-/Studienstipendium"), which can be obtained on the Internet (www.daad.de) or from the diplomatic and consular representations of the Federal Republic of Germany, from DAAD Lektors, from the DAAD-regional offices or Information and Advice Centres, and from partner organisations.
  • The DAAD will not consider incomplete applications.
