iCourts is now recruiting a number of PhDstudents within its areas of research. We are particularly looking for exciting projects which can provide new empirical and theoretical insights in the causes and consequences of the contemporary international judiciary. Research at iCourts is problem-driven and focused on salient empirical and theoretical issues with the goal of proving pathbreaking basic scientific knowledge of international courts.
Preferred applicants have through their studies demonstrated a keen interest in questions related to international law, international courts and globalization. You have a proven track-record of academic excellence and have demonstrated curiosity, commitment and independence in your work. We are looking for candidates with strong analytical skills and interdisciplinary outlook, demonstrated in a PhD proposal which is both original and well versed in the state-of-the-art of iCourts field of inquiry. While independent as an analyst, you must have a preference for enhancing your research competence through close collaboration with colleagues in an international research environment.
You must be fluent in English, both written and spoken. As we are pursuing a truly global object of inquiry, other languages of relevance to international courts preferably French and/or Spanish will be an advantage. You have an educational background equal to the Danish masters degree in law and/or social science. Please note that students who are expecting to graduate this term and are awaiting the evaluation of their dissertation may apply. You can document academic excellence by high grades and assessment of your masters thesis.
The successful applicants will be part of an active, dedicated and cosmopolitan research team situated at the heart ofCopenhagen.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information

All interested parties, regardless of personal background, are encouraged to apply. Foreign applicants must be able to present and document qualifications equivalent to a Danish Master degree before enrolment. Applicants supported by external finances must be able to document such.
In order to be awarded a PhD scholarship the applicant has to enrol as a PhD student at the Faculty of Law cf. the rules of the Danish Ministerial Order No. 18 of 14 January 2008 http://jura.ku.dk/phd/english/curricula/).
Employment will take place according to the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance about the salary of PhD Students. Furthermore, there will be a personal pension bonus corresponding to the difference between the seniority increment received as a principal according to the new wage system for academics on a group contract basis and the pay of a PhD student. Normally, the scholarship cannot be extended.
PhD students at iCourts will be enrolled in the Faculty of Laws general doctoral training programme. Some of the requirements will however be fulfilled by participating in a specific iCourts research training programme.
The Facultys general training programme provides PhDstudents with a general set of skills for developing their research and career. This programme involves participation in research networks and a set of research and teaching courses. It further requires that all PhDstudents must undertake a research visit at another relevant research institution, as well as take on teaching tasks.
The iCourt research training programme is tailored specifically to the iCourts research agenda and seeks to provide PhD students with advanced research tools for exploring key issues related to international law, politics and society. It includes research stays at iCourts targeted collaborators, interdisciplinary supervision and the possibility of obtaining a dual-degree with one of our collaborators, subject to approval by the partner institution. PhD students at iCourts are expected to present their work at leading international conferences, participate actively in the centres activities and contribute to the centres overall research agenda.
