Thorpe Legacy PhD Studentship 2012

Projects

Candidates may apply for one of the following projects. For queries relating to the research project, please contact the project supervisor named on the relevant page:

  • Building and exploring a global map of structural variation in the Plasmodium falciparum genome
  • Identification of new vaccine candidates in malaria parasites by population genomic analyses
  • Can malaria parasites manipulate mosquito behaviour?
  • Endpoints for evaluation of a malaria transmission blocking vaccine
  • The role of natural killer cells in immunity to malaria
  • Use of Rapid Diagnostic Tests to guide treatment of malaria: where is this helpful to providers and patients?

Eligibility

Applicants should have (or expect to obtain) a good first degree (equivalent to UK first class or upper second class) in the area of biological/biomedical science.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information

Benefits

A PhD Studentship funded by the Thorpe Legacy will provide full payment of stipend (£15,740 in 2011/12) and tuition fees (at UK/EU rates) for 3 years, from September 2012. Candidates may apply for one project only.
