Description

Based on a cooperation agreement concluded on 17 March 2010 with DAAD, on one hand, and the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), on the other, university teachers from Guatemala can be funded with scholarships to attend in-service training measures within the scope of Master's or Doctoral degree courses or to complete research stays.

Eligibility

  • Applications are open to university teachers from USAC
  • Age limit: 38 years max. (as a rule)

Duration

Approx. 2 years for a Master's programme; 3 up to 4 years for Doctoral studies.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information

Benefits

Scholarship benefits paid by USAC

  • a monthly base scholarship of about 1,000 Euros
  • a family grant of 200 Euros per month
  • possibly, fees for enrollment and tuition

Scholarship benefits paid by the DAAD

  • an international flat-rate travel allowance
  • an advance preparatory intensive language course in Germany (up to 6 months)
  • a monthly part-cost scholarship payment of 100,- Euros per month
  • an annual study and research subsidy
  • costs for health, accident and liability insurance
  • a printing costs subsidy for the doctoral dissertation
  • possibly, a language course for the spouse in Germany

Application papers

  • Applicants must prove that they have been released from duties by their home university for the duration of their project
  • Detailed information on what application papers need to be submitted can be found on the Application Form for "Research Grants and Study Scholarships" ("Antrag auf ein Forschungs-/Studienstipendium"), which can be obtained on the Internet ( www.daad.de/en/form) or from the diplomatic and consular representations of the Federal Republic of Germany, from DAAD Lektors, from the DAAD regional offices or Information and Advice Centres, and from partner organisations.
  • The DAAD will not consider incomplete applications.
